SERVPRO of Braun Station Crews Removed Water and Dried Affected Areas After a Storm-Damaged Roof Leaked into a San Antonio Home

One room of this elegant San Antonio home suffered significant water damage after torrential rains flowed through its leaking roof from storms battering the residence. Beautifully decorated with dark green walls and creamy-white wainscoting paneling and crown molding, the affected room risked permanent damage to the structure's integrity and the carefully curated decor.

Water intruded through roof shingles and flashings loosened by high winds, pooling overhead near the room's window resulting in ceiling leaks. Rain soaked the drywall, dislodging the crown molding along the top wall edge above the window. As the water poured down the wall and through the ceiling, several inches of standing water spread across the plank flooring. Professional water damage remediation from SERVPRO of Braun Station quickly resolved a stressful situation for the San Antonio homeowners.

To avoid ceiling collapse, our SERVPRO crew removed the soaked drywall from the window corner of the room -- several yards along the outside wall and a few feet into the center of the room. Ceiling repairs from water damage require complete drying of the wet cavity, easier to accomplish by opening the recessed space. We also stripped off the damaged crown molding, retaining the soundness of the upper edge of the wall beneath.

We brought in commercial-grade water extractors for liquid water removal services. Highly-qualified SERVPRO technicians used moisture detectors and meters to identify the remaining damp materials, setting drying goals, using readings from unaffected rooms in the same San Antonio home as baseline references. In preparation for structural drying, the crew:

  • Blocked the window with 1.6 polypropylene to control humidity levels and temperature.
  • Positioned air movers upward to remove lingering moisture in the ceiling opening.
  • Ran dehumidifiers, constantly monitoring temperature and relative humidity with a thermo-hygrometer to ensure an efficient process and avoid overdrying.

SERVPRO of Braun Station rapidly removes water and dries structures after storm damage. Call (210) 267-2159 for emergency services, water damage restoration, and peace of mind.
